Film festival theme?

When a film festival has a theme like Displaced, what do you expect out of it? Displaced, what is displaced, who is displaced? The recently concluded European film festival had this theme.

All the movies that were screened dealt with People displaced from their homes, displaced from their near and dear ones, displaced from the space that they had created for themselves. And how they dealt with that displacement.

And what an amalagamation of movies did they screen. Nice theme, nice movies. Immensely enjoyed all the movies that i watched. Too bad i missed three out of their 8 movies.

One movie that i immensely enjoyed was Subarnarekha by Ritwik Ghatak. This film dealt with the social issues that refugees from East Bengal had to undergo in West Bengal. The performances were amazing. One interesting aspect of this movie was its lead actress Madhabi Mukherjee, in a lot of shots she looked quite similar to Vidya Balan in Parineeta, may be because of the Bengal touch.

P.S - Asian film festival is coming up. Eagerly awaiting to see the movies. If you are around Pune from October 12th to 20th, do not miss it. This year they are supposed to have much better collection than what they screened last time.
