Bang opposite
You get out of Gate I to catch your flight. The flight is stationed right opposite to where you stand. As you are looking at the flight, a small dinghy bus comes over. The airlines attendant asks you and all the people to board the bus. The bus starts, goes all the way to the end of the road, takes an U-turn and comes back right opposite where you were before. Won't it make more sense to just make the passengers just walk over to the flight? I'm sure the airlines would be saving a lot by cutting down on the bus charge.

Hello...A lot of Airlines are looking for CFO's and CEO's.!! Please apply.!!
Just Kidding :)
Yeah, its foolish..indeed.!!
Airline industry still has a quite a comfy profit margin like 5-star hotels. So when one pays much money, they do not want any inconvinience.
I guess if you were flying low-cost airlines then they might make you walk a bit.
Cogito - dont i wish :)
Narayanan sir - ha ha CEO - i can sure dream
Aditya - im talking about airlines - even low cost ones do this - i think it depends on the airport though - in pune - people do walk - in mumbai - people have to take the bus no matter what - there are huge scope of optimization.
Well I think it has a little more to do with safety and security. You would not want your passengers getting run over by vehicles (like another bus operated by a competing airline or emergency vehicles) and of course, if you remember that drama by mouli about the airport, you do not want a curious passenger walking up to the engine and then getting sucked in.
If they allowed them to walk, it would have to be in a line, with fingers on their lips. Hell when I pay so much, I do not want to be reminded of kindergarden.
